Beautiful, Fashionable and Relevant

Hey Thriving Ladies,

Style is personal. The way our fingerprints are so is our style - Efosa Okundaye.

As we get older, we get more familiar with the word gravity. Body parts don’t remain the same so some of us get skilled at packaging and some give up while we “let the girls run free”. For the rest of us, we struggle every day to find the middle line between “packaging” and giving up. We wonder if Christians should package and if yes, how far we should go before we begin to look like the world.

Society has its definitions and they are constantly changing. How is a girl ever supposed to keep up?

God’s definition of beauty is unchanging – a gentle and quiet spirit “which is of great worth in God’s sight.” Nothing about height, weight, dress size, or anything else about your outward appearance.

Beauty is not your weight, height, your complexion and is not dependent on the size of your boobs, your waist, and your butt. Do not get stuck in the will of trying to get in the vogue, be particular about comfort and inner beauty.

God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.” - 1 Samuel‬ ‭16‬:‭7‬ ‭MSG

It is very exhausting when you pay too much attention to your outward appearance. Especially because no matter how much time and money you spend, you still fall short of societal standards.

But God offers us a different standard to measure success and it has nothing to do with your appearance. Your intentions, your heart, are what matters in His eyes.

“But let it be [the inner beauty of] the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, [one that is calm and self-controlled, not overanxious, but serene and spiritually mature] which is very precious in the sight of God.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Our insecurities have a way of keeping us stuck and isolated. The result of this is often a life that is at best mediocre. But the Lord didn’t create you to be mediocre. He created you to do good work, but carrying them out takes confidence! You have to be willing to own the strengths and weaknesses you have and live them out loud. You were created on purpose and for a purpose. Therein lies your relevance.

“For we are His workmanship [His masterwork, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set] so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face it’s about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and a pretty soul. Nothing is more beautiful than a woman who is brave, strong, and emboldened because of who Christ is in her. The most beautiful women I’ve ever observed are those who have exchanged a self-focused life for a Christ-focused one.

“Charm and grace are deceptive, and [superficial] beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the Lord [reverently worshiping, obeying, serving, and trusting Him with awe-filled respect], she shall be praised.” - Proverbs‬ ‭31‬:‭30‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Her clothes are well-made and elegant, and she always faces tomorrow with a smile. Proverbs 31:25 MSG.

The more you can match what you have, it can make you fashionable. Find what you like, it’s unique to you, it’s personal to you. It is important that you buy clothes and underwear in your size and whatever size you are, you’re beautiful. Buy clothes for your body type. If you’re busty, avoid turtlenecks, instead wear V-necks. Be comfortable in whatever you wear and wear clothes according to the occasion you’re going for.

I wear what I have, and I own it. Most importantly, do you? - Efosa Okundaye

Nothing puts me off than meeting a woman who looks beautiful, and her character doesn't match - Efosa Okundaye
